After temporarily scaling back in India, Worldcoin has recently launched its services in Singapore, marking a new chapter for the project. The latest announcement reveals that individuals in Singapore can now verify their “unique humanness” at an Orb. This move comes after the release of World ID 2.0 and the open-sourcing of the Worldcoin iris recognition pipeline. The project focuses on identity verification, utilizing Orb devices to scan individuals’ irises to confirm their humanity.
In addition to the expansion in Singapore, Worldcoin has announced that Tools for Humanity (TFH), a contributor to the project, has joined two prominent startup and technology associations in Singapore: ACCESS and the Singapore Fintech Association (SFA). This partnership with established associations highlights the project’s commitment to collaboration and innovation in the fintech space.
The availability of World ID verifications has been steadily growing across various countries in the past month. The project aims to make its services accessible globally, ensuring widespread adoption of its identity verification protocol. Verifications are now accessible in 11 nations, with new locations being added regularly.
In Spain, the cities of Sevilla and Bilbao have recently joined the expanding list of locations offering World ID verifications. This includes locations from Malaga to Mallorca to Madrid, demonstrating the project’s commitment to establishing a comprehensive network in Spain. Furthermore, recent launches in Cologne and Leipzig have increased the number of Orb locations in Germany to four, complementing existing locations in Berlin and Nuremberg.
Worldcoin has also extended access to World ID verifications in Chile, with locations in Concepcion, Curico, Viña del Mar, and Santiago. This expansion in South America reflects the project’s dedication to serving a global user base and ensuring widespread adoption. Notably, Argentina achieved a new national record of over 10,000 verifications daily, highlighting the increasing demand for Worldcoin’s identity verification services.
Across the Pacific in Japan, Worldcoin has added the city of Fukuoka on Kyushu Island to its list of locations offering proof of personhood verification through World ID. These expansions in Asia, including new options in Tokyo, further contribute to the project’s goal of global accessibility. The growing user base is a testament to the project’s success, with more than five million accounts created to date. Worldcoin’s World App boasts 1.7 million monthly active users and has facilitated over 30 million transactions, establishing it as a significant player in the hot wallet market globally.
Despite its remarkable growth, Worldcoin has faced challenges along the way. The project recently halted operations in India and discontinued registration services in Brazil and France. However, Worldcoin clarified that these activities were limited previews, with plans for a more substantial rollout in 2024. In India, Orb verification services were temporarily paused to implement a customized, secure, and organized registration process, responding to the high demand and ensuring a seamless user experience.
As Worldcoin expands its identity verification services across different countries, it continues to solidify its position as a leader in the space. With strategic partnerships, growing user numbers, and a commitment to innovation, Worldcoin is well-positioned for success. Its focus on providing secure and efficient identity verification solutions will undoubtedly contribute to the global adoption of decentralized technologies, ultimately transforming the way we establish and confirm our unique humanness.
