OpenSea, a prominent NFT marketplace, has introduced its latest endeavor, the “Get Based” series. This initiative is designed to shine a spotlight on artists who are actively creating on Coinbase’s Base network, an Ethereum Layer 2 (L2) solution. The series plans to feature the works of up to 15 artists over the course of the summer, providing a platform for these creators to showcase their talent and creativity.

The inaugural drop in the “Get Based” series will present a reimagined artwork inspired by the iconic “Endless Summer” film, crafted by Carty Sewill. Notably, Sewill is not just an artist but also an employee at OpenSea, adding a unique perspective and level of dedication to the project. Weekly releases will be made available on both OpenSea’s website and Farcaster, a social media protocol, offering open edition NFTs at affordable prices, with some even being offered for free.

The lineup of artists participating in the “Get Based” series is diverse and dynamic, with notable names such as Jhekub, the creator of RGB Punks; Hun, the mastermind behind “Primitives”; Cryptic Poet, a meme artist; Yiying Lu, renowned for creating Twitter’s “Fail Whale”; Subwway, an illustrator; and Thank You Base God, who recently conducted a successful free Base NFT mint on OpenSea, resulting in over 181,000 total mints.

In recent months, OpenSea has been actively promoting and showcasing artists on Coinbase’s Base network, which distinguishes itself from popular Layer-1 chains like Ethereum mainnet or Solana. Base is an emerging chain that is steadily amassing high-value collections, offering a unique space for artists and collectors to engage with one another.

By featuring these artists and their work on the Ethereum L2 network, OpenSea is not only introducing collectors to the Base network but also supporting creators within this burgeoning ecosystem. The platform facilitates the seamless bridging of assets to Base, allowing users to make purchases using fiat currency and credit cards through a MoonPay integration.

The “Get Based” series coincides with Base’s “On-Chain Summer II” promotion, which kicks off on June 3. With prizes, incentives, and gas credits totaling over 600 ETH (approximately $2.3 million) across various projects and protocols, this promotion is intended to boost engagement within the Base network and foster a sense of community among artists and collectors alike.

Through the “Get Based” series, OpenSea is not only providing accessible entry points for collectors but also nurturing the talent and creativity of emerging artists. By highlighting the diversity of artistry within the Base network, the platform is contributing to the overall evolution and growth of the Web3 and NFT ecosystem, paving the way for new possibilities and collaborations in the world of digital art.
