After a lengthy legal process, it seems that Do Kwon, the co-founder of Terraform Labs, will finally be extradited to South Korea. The Appellate Court of Montenegro recently upheld a decision to extradite Kwon, who was arrested in March 2023 in Montenegro alongside the Terraform Labs’ Chief Executive Officer.

Kwon’s extradition has been the subject of several back-and-forths, with previous appeals successfully preventing his deportation to either South Korea or the United States. Initially, the High Court had ruled in favor of extraditing Kwon to the US, but this decision was overruled by the Appellate Court citing criminal procedural violations.

The Montenegrin Court of Appeal rejected Kwon’s appeal to overturn the decision made by the Podgorica High Court. The Appellate Court’s recent announcement highlighted that South Korea’s extradition request came before the US one, a crucial factor considered in the decision-making process.

US prosecutors, who had previously charged Kwon in connection with the collapse of TerraUSD (UST) stablecoin and the LUNA token, are now looking to challenge his extradition to South Korea. Despite the legal battles, Kwon was ultimately sentenced to four months in prison for possessing a fake passport.

While the exact timing of Kwon’s extradition remains uncertain, reports suggest that South Korea’s Police have reached out to Interpol for assistance. It is clear that the legal battle surrounding Do Kwon’s extradition is far from over, with both US and South Korean authorities actively involved in the process.

The extradition saga of Do Kwon highlights the complexity of international legal proceedings and the challenges faced by individuals involved in cross-border legal disputes. The continuous back-and-forth decisions reflect the intricacies of navigating multiple legal systems and the importance of thorough legal representation in such cases. Only time will tell how this legal battle unfolds and what the ultimate outcome will be for Do Kwon and Terraform Labs.
